Oh My God Movie (2009) by Peter Rodger

You don’t take a photograph, you quietly borrow it…”

Peter Rodger grew up looking through a camera lens. As a teenager, the award-winning British director honed his skills by assisting his father, George Rodger, the renowned photo-journalist and co-founder of Magnum Photos.

After completing his education at England’s Maidstone College of Art, his skill with the lens made him one of the most sought-after talents in the European and United States Advertising Industry, shooting numerous car, clothing and cosmetics companies’ print and commercial campaigns in over forty different countries. He has shot for such diverse clients as Mercedes, Save the Children Fund, City National Bank, Coca Cola, Toyota, Microsoft, Infiniti, Lexus, Buick, Acura, Honda, Volvo, Land Rover, Fendi, Xavier Laurent Perfume, Apple Computers, University of Houston, Kodak, Freixenet Champagne, General Electric, Audi and Canon Cameras.

Peter has exhibited his fine art work all over the world and has won numerous awards for his filmed work. He has penned seven screenplays — including “Comfort of the Storm” (2009), “Bystander” and “Publication Day” — in development.

After three years of filming across 23 countries, Peter has just completed producing and directing the epic non-fiction film entitled “Oh My God” — which explores people’s diverse opinions and perceptions of God which was theatrically released in the United States on November 13, 2009.

The concept of intertextuality has proven of inestimable value in recent attempts to understand the nature of literature and its relation to other systems of cultural meaning. In The Memory of Tiresias, Mikhail Iamposlki presents the first sustained attempt to develop a theory of cinematic intertextuality.Building on the insights of semiotics and contemporary film theory, Iampolski defines cinema as a chain of transparent, mimetic fragments intermixed with quotations he calls "textual anomalies." These challenge the normalization of meaning and seek to open reading out onto the unlimited field of cultural history, which is understood in texts as a semiotically active extract, already inscribed.Quotations obstruct mimesis and are consequently transformed in the process of semiosis, an operation that Iampolski defines as reading in an aura of enigma. In a series of brilliant analyses of films by D.W. Griffith, Sergei Eisenstein, and Luis Buñuel, he presents different strategies of intertextual reading in their work. His book suggests the continuing centrality of semiotic analysis and is certain to interest film historians and theorists, as well as readers in cultural and literary studies.
